Night of San Juan, Ibiza Island

Festival celebrating the summer solstice annually

featured in Events Calendar Updated

Every year on 24 June is the Patron Saint’s day of John the Baptist or ‘Sant Joan’. A long tradition that is held dear, all across Spain people celebrate with music, singing, dancing and bonfires in the streets and on the beaches on the eve of Saint John.

As tradition dictates, "els nou foguerons" (the nine bonfires) are lit and the most daring people jump each fire to leave behind the old and welcome the new one.

Traditionally, you should throw into the fire (something old that represents something you no longer want in your life), or a piece of paper where you are meant to write those things you want to change. Whilst some jump, others tasted "bunyols" and "vi pages" (local wine).
