Escape to Ibiza this winter
Ibiza Town makes for the perfect winter city break
There is something particularly enthralling about the fall of winter in Ibiza. Here, there is a real sense of intimacy, which is a welcome relief from what was once a chaotic summer. There are still a lot of interesting things to do, and holidaymakers can take full advantage of the variety of activities and events on offer.
The island’s capital city, Ibiza Town, provides ample choice, with many of its restaurants, bars and hotels remaining open. What’s more, there is a wide selection of shops, nightlife and historical points of interest to discover. Whether you are travelling with family, friends or your loved one, Ibiza Town truly has it all.
Historical discoveries
Ibiza Town boasts some of the island’s most fascinating landmarks, where there is much history for the adventurous traveller to unearth. One of these treasured gems is the medieval fortress of Dalt Vila, which is located inside 16th-century Renaissance walls. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as majestic as it is beautiful, and it also boasts exceptional views across the island. Its main entrance, named Portal de ses Taules, is a spectacular drawbridge flanked by two Roman statues, which leads to a beautiful network of passageways. Other points of interest are the old cathedral and the Archaeological Museum.
Directly below Dalt Vila, you will find the Port of Ibiza, which was founded by Phoenician settlers in 654 BC and once an important naval base. Its promenade is still lined with luxury yachts docked for the winter, with a maze of medieval buildings leading from it. It certainly is possible to spend hours wandering around the cobbled streets, enjoying an aperitif in one of the quarter's quaint cafés or bars. The ferry to Formentera embarks from the Port of Ibiza at regular intervals throughout the day.
Hidden hikes
One of Ibiza Town’s best-kept secret is its hidden hike to the picturesque cove of Los Molinos beach, which can be found below Dalt Vila. Set on flat rocks with panoramic views, by continuing the walk west you can reach the beach of Figueretas. There are still guaranteed days of sunshine in the winter, and there is something quite satisfying about strolling along the deserted shores on what feels like your own private beach.
