With temperatures steadily warming, April is the perfect time to take a trip to the White Isle.

What's the weather like in Ibiza in April?

In April there's a notable increase in temperature which is why many seasonal businesses choose this month to start their summer season. At this time of year temperatures start reaching highs in the early twenties and if you enjoy blue skies and sunshine, then this is a great time to go to Ibiza. It's a great time of year for sporting activities like cycling and hiking, or lounging by a pool or beach. Remember bringing layers as the evenings can still get quite cool, with lows of 12. As we move later in the year the days are getting longer and by the end of the month sunrise is before 07.00 and sunset is after 20.30.

What's on in Ibiza in April?

Semanta Santa / Holy Week:
‘Semana Santa' is a huge religious celebration in Spain and celebrations take place during the full Holy Week of Easter in March of April each year. This is a spectacular event to see making it a great time to visit Ibiza. Throughout the week processions will take place across the island and the streets are filled with residents paying their respects.

Ruta de la Sal Regatta:
For lovers of all things nautical, the island’s gorgeous turquoise seas become the perfect setting for water-based activities. Taking place in April each year, the prestigious regatta sees over 200 boats arrive at the port of San Antonio. With three routes departing from Barcelona, Dénia and Mallorca, guests can enjoy endless views of beautiful boats participating in a simply stunning Mediterranean race. Each year, the fascinating event sees a variety of fun-filled activities on offer throughout the town, including exhibits, stalls and live music.

Easter Traditions in April

During April, visitors are given the chance to experience a traditional take on a much-loved festival in Ibiza. ‘Semana Santa' or Holy Week is mostly a religious celebration in Spain which takes place during Holy Week. Towns across Ibiza are full of sombre and traditional events which people can watch and pay their respects at this very holy time of year. During the week, processions take place across the island with the largest celebration hosted in Dalt Vila on Good Friday.

Donning lavish costumes and cone-shaped masks, participants of the grand parade will carry platforms decorated with religious figures. This is a fantastic opportunity to witness an alternative Easter in a truly spectacular setting.

Beach club openings

This month sees a selection of the island’s favourite beach clubs reopening their doors, signalling the start of the summer season in Ibiza. Generally most clubs open up again gradually across the months of April and May, with their opening parties taking place throughout the island, so you won't be hard-pressed to find yourself an excellent day out in April.

Whilst exact dates vary year on year, some of our favourites to look out for around this time include:

Season of sports

With longer days and more hours of sun, the island transforms into a haven for sports enthusiasts throughout the month of April. The climate is perfect at this time of year for sport throughout the day, with temperatures not yet too hot. Hiking, cycling and running are very popular at this time of year in Ibiza. For this reason there are several major sporting events taking place across the island throughout April and May each year.

The Ibiza Marathon tends to take place in April, taking participants on a journey around the island’s glorious terrain and crossing the finish line in the charming town of Santa Eulalia. The exciting competition draws many people every year, and is a great opportunity for visitors to discover Ibiza.

Various other running, biking and triathlon races take place at this time of year as well, with dates changing year on year, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the sporting calendars for the event that takes your fancy! Markets open up in April

In April, with temperatures nicely warmed up, the days getting longer and tourists returning in larger numbers, the markets begin to return and fill the streets with enticing colours, smells and sounds.

Punta Arabí Market, one of largest and most authentic markets in Ibiza, is one of those that makes a welcome return. With over 500 stalls and 40 years of history, the popular market embodies the very essence of Ibiza and its signature hippy style. Taking place every Wednesday until October from 10:00 to 18:00, visitors can find a treasure trove of goodies, including jewellery, clothes, accessories as well as tempting food and drinks.
