MTV Cancel Plans to Film 'Ibiza Shore'
After much local opposition MTV are forced to cancel the show
Filming was originally due to begin in August, when cast from both Spain's Gandia Shore and Mexico's Acapulco Shore were expected to join forces in Ibiza.
However, since the announcement that MTV wanted to bring the Shores franchise to Ibiza there has been huge uproar across the Island with many people fearing that it would attract unwanted attention and bring the 'wrong sort of tourism'.
Local businesses, residents and even the council were involved in plans to thwart the production, along with 25,000 signatures that called for filming to be cancelled.
On Friday MTV's parent company Viacom released a statement about the cancelled show, "Due to circumstances beyond our control, the next programme of the Shore franchise will not be filmed in Ibiza."
MTV made no mention of the opposition they faced, and instead made reference to the links they had forged whilst scouting the island. “We want to thank all the local businesses who wanted to collaborate with us and we hope to be able to work with you at some point in the future,” the statement said. “There are many Shores beyond those of Ibiza and we’re happy to take this production to another incredible destination.”
The decision has been seen as a great victory for the people of Ibiza, and for their show of solidarity.
