No Local Support for New 'Ibiza Shores' Reality Show
Thousands petition against the new MTV reality TV project
Due to begin filming in August the MTV reality TV show 'Ibiza Shores' has met a lot of hostility on the beautiful island of Ibiza.
Local residents, businesses and tourism officials believe that the show would attract the wrong kind of tourism to the island, and have gathered a petition that has been already been signed by 8,000 people.
The president of the Ibiza regional government said: “If this institution can do anything to prevent Ibiza Shore from happening, it will do so.” Support also comes from Ibiza Council, Tourism councillor Gloria Corral has announced that the necessary filming permit and licences would not be granted to the producers.
In addition to this, local business man, Jaume Torres has applied to register the brand 'Ibiza Shore' thus making it difficult for the MTV producers to use that title. MTV applied to register the brand one day later.
“The registration takes months, which means that the brand doesn’t yet belong to anyone,” said Mr Torres. “Since as I have been the first one to request it, according to the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, I should have the priority.”
