We are only halfway into the month of September, but the heavy rains fallen in the first ten days have broken all records. Five times more water has been accumulated than in the last 30 years for the same dates.

At the start of September, damages were caused by rain, whirlwinds and even a tornado. After getting off to a rocky start, things have not improved reaching an impressive 120 litres per square metre collected on the island.

These storms, more commonly seen on the second half of September, are the consequence of a warm summer that has caused the sea temperature to rise. There have been similar episodes recorded since 1981, but usually happening after September 15th and connected with the cold drop phenomenon.
