Talamanca Beach Review
See and be seen on Ibiza town’s best beach
Talamanca is arguably the nicest beach within walking distance of Ibiza Town. There’s not much to pick between it and Figueretes at the other end but with just a little more seclusion and a touch more sophistication Talamanca wins out as the beach for those in the know.
Lined by restaurants, each classier and more atmospheric than the last, and with paddle boarding and massages being the order of the day, Talamanca beach is a must for relaxation and refinement.
Situated an easy 30 minute stroll from Ibiza town, Talamanca is located beyond the marinas, most of the walk there is along a pedestrian path with attached cycle track and will take you past yachts and playgrounds, a free outdoor gym, restaurants, clubs and hotels. Be sure to sneak a peek at the often photographed Boas de Ibiza building with its rainbow balconies of cascading flowers.
Upon reaching the beach you should first walk the entire length of it. A wooden walkway stretches from end to end and although your eyes will want to gaze out on the white sand and boats bobbing on the clear blue seas you’ll probably find you end up looking more at the restaurants, beach clubs and lounge bars with their sparkling glassware, driftwood sofas, chilled beach tunes and mounds of fresh seafood.
The restaurants along the beach are well designed to add not detract from the relaxing vibe, each building is low and unimposing with a wide open terrace or lounge area out front on the sand so that the beach is populated but doesn’t feel built up or urban. Behind the row of restaurants is a small road and a patch of deserted greenery so although you are surrounded by the all the civilisation you could want, it doesn’t necessarily feel that way.
That being said the further along the beach you walk the quieter it will become and if you walk until you run out of sand you’ll find some hidden restaurants beyond the rocks that are likely to be quieter but no less special than those on the main beach. Shoppers will also find a little hippy boutique or two tucked into the streets at the end of the beach. Keep walking around the rocks and you’ll come to a cliff edge with a breathtaking drop down to the sea and one of Ibiza’s best-kept secrets the Chiringuito Sa Punta, a seafood shack perched on the rocks with a simple fresh menu, rustic trestle tables and epic view.
If you’ve come to the beach for the sand not the seafood then you’re still in luck here at Talamanca, the sand is soft and white and deep, the sheltered bay and shallow sea gradient is perfect for kids and beginner swimmers, there’s very few rocks anywhere which won’t appeal to snorkelers but makes for soft sandy entry to the water. Kayaks, paddle boards and pedal boats are available for those wanting a mellow cruise around the bay, water sports and inflatable rides are available for those who’ve had enough of relaxation.
Sunloungers and parasols are for rent at €6 a day, massage zones are available, 2 lifeguard stations monitor the beach, the wooden walk way stretches the length of the sand for easy accessibility and there is also beach wheelchairs available for use as well as great disabled facilities in the shower and toilet block. Security lockers are also available near the showers.
If you don’t fancy dining at any of the restaurants you can pick up a picnic at the Spar supermarket located at the town end of the beach and there’s nothing stopping you setting up camp in front of one of the lounges to enjoy their chilled beach vibes and atmosphere at no cost, but if you do want to sample one or another of them then here’s a few that stood out.
Restaurant and hotel Talamanca is the first you’ll come to with a large terrace, affordable tapas menu and live music and barbeque on a Saturday night. El Barco and Talamanca Pizzaria are your best options for simple child friendly menus with pizzas, chicken and chips, omelettes etc alongside the seafood. El Pulpo has a beautiful seafood menu at not bad prices although a lot of the fish is priced daily according to market prices.
If you walk along the rocks you’ll find reasonably priced cocktails at the Hotel Figueres on the rocks and a Lebanese rooftop restaurant and Asian food bar if you fancy something a little different.
If you’re after a day of serious luxury then it has to be The Harbour Club, private sunlounger service, huge terrace with cabana beds, private DJ’s and exquisite menu offering sushi and sashimi alongside 160 day aged Black Angus beef. If you’re looking to push the boat out then head here to feel like the A-List for a day.
Talamanca beach; perfect for a beautiful day out with a touch of beachside class.
